Key dates

1936

The Kin Siong family

started out in food retail by opening a grocery shop in Mont-Vert-Les-Hauts. This first step marked the beginning of a family story dedicated to serving our community.

1974

Opening of our second store and future head office

In 1974, we opened our second food store, Super-King, located in Les Casernes, Saint-Pierre. It later became our head office, where it still stands today, a symbol of our lasting roots in the region.

1986

We enter the grocery retail sector

and expand by opening our first supermarket, HYPERCRACK, in Saint-Pierre. This milestone marked a major turning point in our development, strengthening our presence and our commitment to the local community.

1995

We continue to grow in grocery retail

In 1995 with the opening of Géant Casino La Chatoire, in Le Tampon. A leading retail destination in the south of the island for more than two decades, the store has evolved alongside the needs of its customers and the region.

In 2019, a new chapter began with its conversion to HYPER U La Chatoire. This change of banner reflects our wish to offer a renewed shopping experience that is closer to customers, more modern and always focused on their satisfaction.

2005

Construction of the Grand Sud shopping centre:

In 2005, we built the Grand Sud shopping centre in the ZAC Canabady, Saint-Pierre. This project marked an important step in our expansion, broadening our presence in the retail sector and strengthening our commitment to local economic development.

2015

Diversification through a partnership in hospitality:

In 2015, we took a new strategic turn with a partnership in the hotel business and the opening of the Dina Morgabine hotel in La Saline-Les-Bains. This move into tourism reflects our drive to innovate and to help showcase the island.

2019

We continue to diversify

We continue expanding our grocery retail business with the opening of SUPER U Éperon in Saint-Gilles-les-Hauts.

At the same time, we extend the group into retail and fashion, opening the first MINISO store in France. This diversification reflects our commitment to offering an ever wider range of products and services to our customers.

2020

Takeover of the CASTA bakery-patisseries in partnership

A network now comprising 9 outlets located from Sainte-Marie to Saint-Pierre. This step reflects the determination of GKS and its partner to promote local expertise and secure the future of a brand renowned for the quality of its artisan products.

2021

Further diversification with new openings

In 2021, several more MINISO stores open in the north, east and south of the island. We also launch a new home décor brand, UTOPIA, broadening our offer to meet our customers’ varied needs.

2024

Our restaurant division grows through partnerships, with:

— The opening of the healthy, indulgent restaurant LE PARADIS DU FRUIT on the Grand Sud cinema esplanade in Pierrefonds.

— The opening of the French-style hot dog counter MONSIEUR ALBERT at the Bank roundabout in Saint-Pierre.

— The opening of BERLINER DAS ORIGINAL, serving authentic Berlin-style kebabs, at HYPER U La Chatoire in Le Tampon

2025

Partnership in grocery retail

Opening of U express Saint-Benoît, following the openings of U express Beauséjour in Sainte-Marie, Plaine-des-Palmistes in 2020, Sainte-Rose in 2023 and Saint-Benoît in 2025.
