GKS, our commitments

Being a responsible player in our region

Being a responsible player in our region is one of our core commitments.

We favour local jobs and skills, convinced that sustainable economic development depends above all on the women and men who bring our region to life.

Because responsible development is now essential, we make sure every day that our activities have a controlled environmental impact and fully align with the company’s CSR commitments.

Towards our employees

We are committed to being a responsible, exemplary employer for our 700 current and future employees. Listening, kindness and attentiveness are the watchwords of our management approach.

We attach great importance to equal opportunities and equal treatment for our staff: equality between women and men, inclusion of people with disabilities, respect for cultural diversity…

Convinced that diversity is an asset for the company, we value the multiculturalism that makes up our companies and partnerships, respect everyone and work to prevent any form of discrimination.

GKS, social responsibility

Towards our region

As a company committed to the social development of Réunion, we aim to make our services and products available to all residents, driven by a commitment to equal opportunities. Our brands work together to ensure consistency across the whole island, from the coast to the highlands.

In each of our brands, we hire local staff and are committed to offering healthy, sustainable products for the well-being of consumers and the island.

Our MINISO stores
are proud to support the REEF CHECK association in protecting coral reefs, oceans and marine biodiversity.
This partnership reflects our wish to raise awareness of marine conservation as widely as possible and to encourage everyone to help protect corals. We are also committed to promoting responsible tourism and sustainable practices, which are vital to protecting our island.
As part of this, we regularly organise awareness days and practical actions to safeguard coral reefs, while donating part of our contributions to REEF CHECK to support its work in the field.

Towards charitable organisations

SUPER U Éperon supports the C.L.E.F association (Culture, Leisure, Mutual Aid, Family) every week in the fight against food waste.
Damaged fruit and vegetables are sorted, cleaned and put to good use, giving them a second life instead of ending up in the bin.
Every year, SUPER U Éperon also reinforces its solidarity commitment by organising toy and clothing drives for families in need. A responsible approach that puts generosity and sharing at the heart of our actions.

After Cyclone Garance struck in February 2025, our retail brands supported the RED CROSS
of Réunion by donating new clothes to those affected.
Keen to make this action last, we have set up regular donations to strengthen our partnership and provide concrete help to people in need and disaster victims.
This solidarity partnership fully reflects our commitment to mutual aid and social responsibility.

For more than ten years, HYPER U La Chatoire has worked with the Catholic association SAINT-VINCENT DE PAUL in Trois-Mares, Le Tampon, to support those most in need.
Every week, the store gives the association fresh and dry products nearing their use-by date, along with slightly damaged clothing, which are then redistributed to those who need them most.
A lasting act of solidarity, built on proximity and sharing, serving the most vulnerable.

For more than ten years, HYPER U La Chatoire, has supported the association ASAVV (Aid and Support for Victims of Violence), based in Condé, Le Tampon.
Every week, the store provides fresh and dry products nearing their use-by date, along with slightly damaged clothing, to support the people helped by the association.
Thanks to this partnership, around fifty beneficiaries regularly receive concrete help, reflecting a shared commitment to solidarity and respect for human dignity.

Towards people

ODYSSEA is a charity run held every year in L’Étang-Salé to raise funds for breast cancer research.
GKS supports this initiative by giving its employees the opportunity to take part, with each registration counting as a donation to the cause. This contributes both to solidarity and to team spirit and cohesion across our brands.
A commitment that combines solidarity, well-being and human values.

So that everyone can enjoy an optimal shopping experience, our U stores in La Chatoire and L’Éperon offer a weekly “quiet hour”.
For one hour, lighting is dimmed and music volume lowered to provide a suitable environment for autistic people, allowing them to shop in complete peace.

Towards culture

GKS is proud to support the Kromali festival, run by the association REUNION METIS, which celebrates Réunion’s cultural richness and diversity. The festival helps strengthen social, cultural and intergenerational ties, by encouraging exchange, the sharing of knowledge and the promotion of local talent.

Through this partnership, GKS reaffirms its commitment to an island that is united, open and proud of its diversity, by supporting local initiatives that celebrate living together and showcase Réunion’s culture.

GKS, environmental responsibility

Environmental responsibility

Aware of the importance of protecting our planet, we are committed to minimising the environmental impact of our activities. Through everyday eco-friendly practices, we effectively help reduce waste and cut the polluting emissions linked to our operations.

Producing
renewable energy

Almost all of our store car parks, our roofs and some of our warehouses are covered with solar panels to produce energy. This initiative lets us generate clean, renewable energy, reducing our carbon footprint and actively contributing to the island’s energy transition.

Supporting
electric mobility

The car parks of Hyper U La Chatoire and Super U Éperon are now equipped with electric charging points for our customers’ and employees’ vehicles. This initiative reflects our commitment to sustainable mobility and helps reduce polluting emissions in our region.

Eco-friendly
buildings

Our buildings are designed and built with energy efficiency in mind. We favour recycling and reusing our equipment to minimise our environmental impact.

Fighting
food waste

At HYPER U La Chatoire and SUPER U Éperon, we actively fight food waste. Every week, we make numerous food donations of products close to their use-by date. We also run promotions on short-dated products to reduce waste and encourage responsible consumption.
